My Favorite Homemade Meals

Cooking has always been something that I enjoy. Being able to put in the effort to make a homemade meal somehow makes the food taste better. Whether I am making something I’ve done in the past or trying something new, cooking helps me relax and get creative.

Peasant Pasta

Peasant Pasta is one of my first favorite comfort foods. I have it all the time at home for dinner, and it stores great for leftovers. With it being really simple (Penne, tomato sauce, peas (and optional parmesan)). The reason it’s called Peasant Pasta is that the ingredients are readily available.

Penne Gorgonzola

Cheese!

This dish contains dairy, especially cheese. If you are lactose intolerant, I do not recommend this dish.

Penne Gorgonzola is a recent dish that I grew to like. It’s very creamy, with a strong blue cheese flavor. Combined with cubed ham, creamy cheesy sauce, parsley for the additional texture and color, and topped off with parmesan. The dish is incredibly simple, but feels fancy. It just adds a little bit of variety to an average day.

Fried Rice

Fried Rice is one of the most customizable meals on this list. Basically, it includes your average day-old rice (stored overnight in the fridge to have a firmer texture), eggs, and soy sauce. You can add other things, like ham, carrots, peas, peppers, etc. It is incredibly quick and easy to cook, but also make a mess if you aren’t too careful.

Take Note...

Being able to add almost whatever you have available is nice, but adding too much can actually subtract from the overall flavor profile of the dish.

German Pancakes

Also known by my family as “Hootenanny Pancakes,”, is one of my favorite breakfast dishes. Using lots of butter and eggs, the edges rise from the pan, becoming fluffy, with a crisp crust on the outside and a soft middle. I enjoy this dish with powdered sugar, syrup, fruit (if I have any), and whipped cream. This dish uses very few ingredients, but creates a decent amount of food to enjoy.
